Cape May Lighthouse
Since 1859, the Cape May Lighthouse (in Cape May Point State Park) has been a beacon to mariners and visitors alike. Come see the Lighthouse's recently restored lantern and tower. Your students can climb the 199 stairs to the watch room gallery (just below the lantern itself). In addition to the panoramic view, they can learn about the life and duties of a lighthouse keeper. Your Lighthouse visit takes approximately 30 minutes. Schedule The Beacon Program for your classroom or assembly to prepare your students for their visit to the Lighthouse. This classroom presentation can be customized to include lighthouses in your area.
Adjacent to the Lighthouse tower is the Oil House, which contains a fully-accessible visitors' orientation center and a museum shop with souvenirs, books, videos, and other maritime-related items and resource material.

Hours of operation vary throughout the year. The tower is open daily, April through November, and on weekends most of the rest of the year. The grounds, ground floor, tower and watch room gallery are open to the public. All tours of the tower are self-guided.
